Once of the main lines of action of the Catholic Schools of Madrid (ECM), is to facilitate training and development for the educational centres that comprise it. The educational world is changing and it is evident that in the next few years, the majority of centres will go from classic, traditional teaching-learning models to more complex models, based on active pedagogical approaches.
Once of the key success factors will be the performance and leadership provided by school management teams. Said teams must move from an old model which is only based on management or administration aspects, or in static regulations and the organisation of the centre, to one with the added value of shared leadership and management action. When dealing with these changes, we risk losing our original identity signs on the way.
A manager at any educational centre who intends to implement changes must have multiple competences and knowledge, and his/her duty will be as complex as that of any other sector's manager, or even more.
The basic idea of the postgraduate programme is transfer. The main objective is that by the end of the programme, all managers enrolled in it are able to design and implement a realistic plan or strategy in their organisations to foster or improve the required educational change.
Also, this postgraduate programme focuses on the centre's educational project and its ideology, and the potential gap between it and the classroom's reality; this is even more important in catholic centres.
The following points summarise the postgraduate methodological approach.
During the course of the postgraduate programme, participants will grow professionally through the suggested contents and activities, but also through team work the professional value provided by the team. For this first edition, it is key for the success of the programme that the participants have a high profile and level of competence. It would be desirable that participants come from centres with a clear commitment for change and are:
(All of them at centres undergoing change or innovation processes)

This postgraduate course has been designed to be taught during the academic course, with the following characteristics:
Any education manager must know and be able to convey the pedagogical and scientific bases that support the education decisions taken in line with the centre's identity.
Education projects cannot be a mere document to be submitted to the Inspectorate, they must be implemented in the daily routine of the classroom by means of specific mechanisms.
The planning, management and assessment of the specific classroom work must be supported by tools that ensure and facilitate application, improvement, assessment and, where applicable, correction thereof.
The education leader must have certain clear notions when making decisions or participating in conversations for such purpose. Some services may be outsourced, but not the criteria that align the options with the specific education project.
A real school change is not possible without the involvement of teachers. Team and personnel management may be improved by successful behavioural tools and keys.
Schools must develop their own marketing strategies to know their customers, develop their products, their own brand-identity and the provision of services. It is not about smoke and mirrors, it's about achieving a clear, effective, useful and honest communication.
A large part of the education leadership function has to do with communication with teachers, parents or students. Controlling a series of basic tools may be important when achieving communication objectives effectively.
During this postgraduate course, links will be built between participants; these links are one of the main values of the postgraduate programme and will be used by professionals to extend their contact network for future projects.
The basic element of our postgraduate programme is to convey knowledge and provide participants with all necessary tools for inspiring, fostering and supporting innovation and change processes in their centres.
This idea fosters and inspires the preparation of two "practical" elements all through the training programme:
